Hi, I think this board is a great idea...hopefully it'll be used constructively and not develop in to the slag-fest the old motive zine sadly became.
In my opinion, the local scene is improving in terms of more bands coming through and doing stuff...but it'll only ever be what we make it. So anyone who thinks setting up an event page on Facebook and 'that'll do' is how to promote a show is mistaken...local bands and venues ALL need support, regardless of personal taste etc. In an area of our size, supporting each other is vital - that goes for gig goers as well as people in bands. The most important thing that NEEDS to happen very soon is more people attending gigs. The Brickyard for example suffers from a lack of people, particularly students not attending enough shows - perhaps instead of spending that £20 down Botchergate on a wet wednesday, spend half of it and have twice as much fun watching some bands and enjoying great drink offers.
I enjoy writing the Soundcheck article in the News & Star every week, it took a long time to get it going, and the feedback I've had so far from bands featured has been excellent. I'll keep doing it as long as there are things to write about. I'd really like you all to read the article each week (I will post links to the online version every Thursday), and bands to email me anything and everything they would like me to cover. I have roughly 1000 words to play with a week, so I usually cover one or two bands in decent detail and then round up local gigs happening around the county - so any shows you're playing big or small, please let me know. The address to use is adamdlewis@live.com. Look forward to hearing your thoughts and finding out about your events and releases soon.
